Note: Trigg County Newspaper Abstracts, Vol 4 August 6, 1936 Mr. A.M. New, well known farmer of this county, died at his home south of Cadiz Monday afternoon. He had been in failing health for some time, but was only in bed about a month preceeding his demise. Mrs. New gave him his dinner on Monday and she said he ate heartily. Shortly after dinner a neighbor passing by stopped and asked Mrs. New about her husband´s condition. As the neighbor left she heard Mr. New and went to see him and saw that he was dying. She called to the neighbor, who came back at once and they found him dead. Born at Canton, Mr. New lived there for many years and was associated with his father in the undertaking business. In those days it was customary for the undertakers to make the caskets they sold and Mr. New learned the cabinet making art under his father. After he moved near Cadiz he was employed by the county to make caskets for the inmates of the county farm amd for the poor of this county. He had been away from Canton about 25 years. The last fifteen years were spent on the farm where he died. He was twice married. The first time to a Miss Colley, who died. One son was born to this couple, George New of this county. His second marriage was to Miss Ella Spiceland, who survives. He had been a Mason for many years and a member of the Cadiz Lodge. He served as Tyler in that lodge, an office he held until his death. Burial at Canton Tuesday. Member of the Methodist Church.
